Collection: Carriers

When picking a soft structured carrier for a newborn, look for a model that offers ample head and neck support, as well as an ergonomic position that keeps the baby's hips in a healthy "M" shape. You’ll want to wear your baby inward facing on your chest. At this stage we love a simple carrier that is easy to lift a baby without adequate neck support in and out and that keeps baby skin to skin for contact naps and soothing. For newborns we love the Baby Bjorn Mini.

As baby gains neck and spine strength they’ll be ready to face outward or be carried on your back. At this stage, baby is getting heavier and you’ll likely want a carrier with more back support to make baby wearing more comfortable for you. For the baby stage we love the Ergo Baby Omni Breeze and Baby Bjorn Harmony.

As baby gets more and more mobile, they may tolerate being in their carrier less and less. Many parents stop baby wearing altogether around the 6 month mark and others taper off over the subsequent months.

However, hiking backpacks can be a much more comfortable ride for both baby and parents at this stage as baby has more space to move around and a better vantage point to explore their world. Learn More and read our suggestions for this stage on our blog.
By the time your child is a toddler, they’ve outgrown their carrier. However, they’ll still want to be held by their caregivers, and in this case a hip seat can be helpful for supporting their weight more comfortably and ergonomically.
